Transportation Safety Advisor

Our Transportation Safety Team provides training and customer service, maintains compliance with company policies and federal / state regulations, and ensures full investigation, review, and resolution recommendations related to accidents and citations. As a Transportation Safety Advisor, you will provide frontline departmental leadership across multiple locations. Your daily focus will be on accident/citation review and resolution, regulatory/policy compliance, and operational risk mitigation.

We are looking for:

  • 3+ years of experience related to transportation safety/law enforcement/accident reconstruction
  •  

 

What is the work?

Safety:

  • Responsible for accident/citation/customer concern review, resolution, and regulatory/policy compliance. Communicates accident findings and recommendations to leadership.
  • Conducts accident investigation and reconstruction to determine root cause and factors contributing to accidents or other safety-related incidents involving state, local, and federal authorities.

 

  • Participates in driver accident/citation appeal process
  • Makes recommendations to Safety and Operations leaders for resolutions, additional training, or consequences upon completion of accident/citation investigation on complex investigations
  • Provides support / responds to accidents, weather, or other emergency situations involving Transportation
  • Conducts litigation file reviews to support deposition preparation for transportation- and safety-related accidents and incidents.
  • Performs driver citation reviews/audits with motor carrier profile from USDOT, TXDPS
  • Attends transportation and driver-related seminars, conferences, and competitions
  • Participates in continuing education courses on safety, OSHA, transportation topics, and job skill enhancement
  • Conducts ELDT/Driver interviews with operational leadership to ensure high-quality and safe driver recruitment.
  • Participates in / leads cross-functional projects as directed

Risk Mitigation/Training:

  • Collaborates with HR, Recruiting, and Operations Leadership to implement transportation safety best practices and mitigate risks.
  • Provides Transportation operations leadership guidance and consultation in the interpretation and application of transportation safety policies/practices
  • Provides new Transportation leaders with technical training, coaching, and development related to transportation safety policies and regulations
  • Collaborate with Transportation Safety Training on CDL Compliance and Training initiatives
  • Serves as liaison between Transportation, H-E-B Construction/Design, and Store Operations regarding new store openings and construction.
  • Conducts regular ride-a-longs with drivers to ensure compliance with best practices, DOT regulations, and H-E-B Transportation policies.

What is your background?

  • A related degree or comparable formal training, certification, or work experience
  • 3+ years of experience related to transportation safety/law enforcement
  • Experience related to accident investigation/reconstruction, DOT Compliance, accident prevention programs, and risk mitigation.
  • Experience with presentations and presenting to cross-functional teams
  • Experience in process improvement analysis and review
  • Completion of / current certification from approved safety/compliance organization

Do you have what it takes to be a fit as a Transportation Safety Advisor at H-E-B?

  • Advanced knowledge of federal / state motor carrier regulations, including (OSHA, DOT, state, and EPA)
  • Verbal / written communication and presentation skills
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • PC skills, including MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), H-E-B network, and software/systems required by the job
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and shift focus between projects/tasks
  • Ability to work independently; self-motivated to learn / confidently apply new learnings
  • Ability to work through challenging situations and work collaboratively with all levels of leadership

  • Work extended hours, including occasional evenings/weekends; sit for extended periods
